Heritage Category 1 Restoration | 2-Year Project

Following significant earthquake damage, Gary Mason Construction was engaged to restore this 1880s heritage-listed commercial building in the heart of Lyttelton. The project demanded careful demolition, sensitive construction around protected historical features, and tight coordination with owners, engineers, and compliance authorities.

Led by Gary Mason and foreman Graeme, the team navigated multiple plan changes and regulatory challenges while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship and clear communication throughout.

Following earthquake damage, this historic Woolston property required extensive repair and seismic strengthening. This commercial strengthening project included a steel external frame and installation of sixteen 26 m-deep piles, along with a new stairwell, elevator, first-floor extension, and office fit-outs. The structural enhancements ensured long-term integrity while accommodating functional upgrades.
