Meet Gary Mason

The builder behind the projects that others won't touch

Gary Mason is the Director and hands-on leader of Gary Mason Construction. With over 25 years in the industry, he’s delivered residential and commercial projects across every terrain and complexity, earning a reputation for problem-solving where others see red flags.

He holds a National Certificate in Carpentry, is a Certified Builder, and a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP). But beyond the certifications, it’s Gary’s calm authority and relentless precision that clients remember most.

He’s managed new home, hillside and commercial builds, restored earthquake-damaged heritage buildings, and delivered polished office and hospitality fitouts, all with his trademark mix of practicality and big-picture thinking.

The Philosophy

Gary believes that building is more than construction—it’s collaboration. A high-stakes build isn’t just about getting from A to B. It’s a full team effort that brings together the client, architect, engineers, council, and subcontractors—all working toward the same outcome.

It’s also about navigating shifting ground, changing specs, weather delays, and dozens of hidden decisions that make or break a project. Gary’s approach?

Off-duty, you’ll find him on a mountain or in the ocean.

When he’s not on site, Gary is chasing wind and waves. A passionate kite surfer and skier, you’ll often find him exploring remote Pacific islands or carving powder on international ski slopes. His sense of adventure mirrors his work: deliberate, focused, and always up for a challenge.

Whenever an obstacle looked like it would stall the build, GMC found a way to carry on
